Kayem Foods just recalled approximately 24,173 pounds of its ready-to-eat chicken sausage for potentially being contaminated with a foreign material. Specifically, pieces of plastic, which three consumers found inside their sausage.
What caused the recall?
Kayem Foods notified the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that they had received complaints from consumers indicating that small white pieces of plastic were found inside their chicken sausage. As of writing this news story, there have been no injuries or illness related to the contaminated products.
What stores sold the chicken sausage?
The chicken sausage was distributed and sold nationwide, including at Hy-vee, Meijer, Publix and Walmart among others. If you regularly shop at these stores and purchase chicken sausage, then please check your labels.

This recall is for one flavor of the Al Fresco brand chicken sausage. Since the use or freeze by date is in October, it’s also important to check your freezer.
